Turkey
Turkey is high in protein, just like chicken and is incredibly lean, meaning it is perfect for a low-fat diet or if you exercise a lot.

Quinoa
Full of protein, amino acids (all of them), magnesium, iron and copper, this grain is thought to help people who suffer from migraines and diabetes. It's particularly good in salads and, because of the protein, will make you feel full up for longer.

Prunes

Frozen Berries
Almost as good as the real thing, loading up your freezer with chilled berries allows you to enjoy antioxidant-rich delights such as blueberries and raspberries all year round.

Fennel
It's a surprisingly rich source of vitamin C, a nutrient which the body is unable to produce on its own. Vitamin C prevents cell damage, looks after your joints and protects your immune system. The high fibre, folate and potassium content also promotes cardiovascular and colon health.

Swiss Chard
The phytonutrients and fibre keep your digestive system healthy while high levels of vitamin K are known to promote bone health. Its vitamin C reserves, meanwhile, boost your immune system.

Liver
Liver contains B vitamins, vitamin A, zinc, selenium, protein, vitamin C and iron. Liver is therefore good for your cardiovascular health and immune system, energy levels and for cancer prevention.

Turmeric
Turmeric is an excellent source of curcumin, which is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and protection against bowel cancer. If you're making spicey food, sprinkle it on liberally.

Brown Rice
So why is brown rice better than white? The production of brown rice retains most of the nutritional value, while turning it into white rice strips away much of the B vitamins, iron, fibre and essential fatty acids.

Chillies
Did you know that chillies can speed up your metabolism and help you lose weight? As well as being full of vitamin A, C and fibre, chilli can increase the amount of calories you work off by 15%. Burn baby burn!
